Over 1000 Farmers Offer Special Prayers with Bullock Carts at Thirumurthimalai Temple Near Udumalpet

On Aadi Amavasya, more than 1000 farmers from surrounding areas gathered at Thirumurthimalai Amanalingeswarar Temple near Udumalpet for special prayers with their bullock carts, continuing an age-old tradition.

Coimbatore: Over 1000 farmers from various regions including Udumalpet, Pollachi, Dharapuram, Kinathukadavu, and Dindigul converged at the Thirumurthimalai Amanalingeswarar Temple near Udumalpet in Tiruppur district on the occasion of Aadi Amavasya. The farmers arrived in their traditional bullock carts to offer special prayers, continuing a long-standing tradition.

The farmers believe that visiting the temple on Aadi Amavasya with double-bullock carts will ensure the well-being and longevity of their cattle, as advised by their ancestors. They also performed rituals for their deceased ancestors on the riverbanks.

The farmers explained that this practice has been passed down through generations. They said, "Our ancestors told us that visiting the Thirumurthimalai Amanalingeswarar Temple on Aadi Amavasya with bullock carts would bring good fortune and keep our livestock healthy. It's also believed to promote the growth of the Kangeyam breed of native cattle." The farmers added that they have been following this tradition for many years and have observed that their cattle remain healthy and disease-free as a result.

The Aadi Amavasya celebrations at the Thirumurthimalai Amanalingeswarar Temple not only serve as a religious event but also as a means to preserve traditional farming practices and indigenous cattle breeds. The large turnout of farmers with their bullock carts highlights the continuing significance of this custom in the agricultural communities of the region.
