Coimbatore: IndiGo Airlines marked a significant milestone in Coimbatore's aviation history by launching its first international service from the city to Abu Dhabi on August 10, 2024. The inaugural flight took off at 7:40 am, carrying 168 passengers on its maiden journey to the United Arab Emirates capital.

The new route, which will operate three days a week, not only enhances Coimbatore's international connectivity but also opens up new opportunities for trade and tourism. The return flight from Abu Dhabi to Coimbatore carried 163 passengers, indicating strong demand for the service in both directions.

In addition to passenger traffic, the airline anticipates that this route will also facilitate cargo transportation, further boosting economic ties between the two regions. This development is expected to be particularly beneficial for businesses in and around Coimbatore.

With the addition of Abu Dhabi to its international roster, Coimbatore International Airport now boasts direct connections to three international destinations. The other two cities with direct flights from Coimbatore are Singapore and Sharjah, cementing the airport's growing importance as a regional hub for international travel.

This new service is anticipated to provide a significant boost to the local economy, offering easier access for business travelers, tourists, and the large Indian diaspora in the UAE. It also positions Coimbatore as an increasingly attractive destination for international visitors and investors.
