Women's Organization Protests Against Police in Usury Case: Supporting Victim

Allegations against police in Susila's usury case from Gandhi Nagar, Coimbatore. Philomena, district coordinator of All India Progressive Women's Association, filed a complaint with the Police Commissioner.

Coimbatore: Susila, a resident of Gandhi Nagar in Coimbatore, has been caught in a Usury (kandhuvatti) issue. Regarding this, Philomena, the Coimbatore district coordinator of the All India Progressive Women's Association, along with Susila, approached the Coimbatore City Police Commissioner to file a complaint.

Philomena stated, "The police are acting in favor of the person who gave money for usury. When we went to inquire about the action taken on Susila's complaint petition at the Saravanampatti police station, we were deeply saddened by the police claiming that there was no complaint petition at all."

Susila had reportedly spent the borrowed money on her daughter's wedding after refusing to join the MyV3 app. While she had been paying ₹4,000 as monthly interest, she is now unable to repay ₹2,20,000. Consequently, it is alleged that the lender has been harassing Susila and has locked her house.

Philomena further added, "The usury problem continues because police stations are resolving these issues through informal mediation instead of approaching them legally. We are fighting for Susila to get proper justice. If proper justice is not served, we are prepared to lay siege to the police department."

It was reported that Susila's house was only opened after the Police Commissioner's order. The women's organization members are closely monitoring the actions taken by the police in this case.
