Police in Tamil Nadu's west zone destroyed 344.138 kg of ganja seized from peddlers across eight districts. The contraband was burnt at a biomedical waste treatment facility in Chettipalayam, Coimbatore, under court orders and police supervision.

Coimbatore: In a significant move to dispose of seized contraband, the police in Tamil Nadu's west zone burnt 344.138 kg of ganja on Monday. The drugs were confiscated from peddlers across eight districts in the region.

The destruction of the seized ganja took place at Tekno Therm Industries, a biomedical waste treatment facility located in Chettipalayam, Coimbatore. The operation was carried out based on directions from respective courts and under the supervision of senior police officials.

A. Saravana Sundar, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Coimbatore range, and V. Badrinarayanan, Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police, were present to oversee the destruction process. Officers of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police from all involved districts also attended the event.

The contraband destroyed in this operation was seized by various police units, including Coimbatore city, Tiruppur city, and Salem city police, as well as district (rural) police in Coimbatore, the Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Krishnagiri, and Dharmapuri districts.

The destruction process took place from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the biomedical waste treatment facility. Police officials stated that this particular facility was chosen for its incinerators and exhaust air purifying mechanism, ensuring the safe and complete destruction of the seized ganja.

This mass destruction of seized narcotics underscores the ongoing efforts of the Tamil Nadu police to combat drug trafficking and distribution in the region. It also serves as a deterrent to potential drug peddlers and highlights the authorities' commitment to maintaining law and order in the state.
