Fury of nature takes a toll on people at Attikal Village, Ooty

Attikal, Thalaikundha is 12kms away from Ooty. It is said that this place is subject to the rage of mother Earth; as smoke rises from the grounds without setting fire. The smoke that emanates from the ground has been causing huge concern to the residents, who also complain of breathing difficulties amongst people of this region. The fauna and flora around this smoke zone seems parched, hence the locals are gripped in panic.

However, it is reported that a decade back, at the very same place, thick fumes of smoke along with fire erupted from the ground. The locals report that only after several months the smoke and the fire subsided.

This situation has been a growing concern for the last 10 years for the locals of Attikal Village as not just smoke but often fires are also sparked from the site. At present, the Forest department, Geothermal Soil Departments have set up camps in order to probe the issue.
