Theft in AC Sleeper Bus: Couple Loses Laptops, iPhone During Journey from Bengaluru to Coimbatore; police reluctant to file FIR

A couple traveling from Bengaluru to Coimbatore lost laptops, an iPhone, and other valuables to a thief who entered their bus during a restroom break near Salem. Police reluctant to file FIR after clear display on CCTV footage.

Coimbatore: An IT couple traveling from Bengaluru to Coimbatore on an AC sleeper bus fell victim to theft during their journey, losing valuable electronic devices and personal belongings. The incident occurred during a restroom break near Salem in the early hours of August 11.

The couple, who work in IT firms, were passengers on the SST LIMOLINER bus, which they had booked through RedBus. Around 3 AM, the bus halted for a restroom break near the Coimbatore bypass road in the outskirts of Sangagiri, in front of Gowri Sankar Veg Hotel.

While the passengers were using the restroom facilities, an unidentified man, described as neatly dressed with a cap, shoes, and jacket, entered the bus. The intruder, who was not a co-passenger, allegedly searched through the seats and made off with the couple's belongings.

The stolen items included two laptops, an iPhone 15 Pro Max, a wallet containing cash, and the couple's office ID cards. The entire incident was captured on the bus's CCTV camera, providing clear footage of the thief in action.

Following the theft, the victims approached the local police station in Sangagiri to file a First Information Report (FIR). However, despite having clear CCTV evidence, they claim that the police have been reluctant to register an FIR.

The couple reported spending two days traveling approximately 200 kilometers to follow up on their case, but their efforts have been unsuccessful so far. They expressed frustration over the lack of support from law enforcement and the significant physical and mental stress they are experiencing as a result.

In light of their ordeal, the victims are now seeking to raise awareness about the incident through media channels. They hope that by sharing their experience and the video footage, they can alert other travelers to potential security risks during overnight bus journeys.

This incident highlights the need for increased vigilance among passengers and improved security measures on long-distance buses, especially during night-time stops. It also underscores the importance of prompt and effective response from law enforcement agencies in addressing such crimes.
