CSW Foundation and District Tobacco Control Cell Host Poster Competition in 10 Coimbatore Schools

CSW Foundation and District Tobacco Control Cell organized a poster-making competition on tobacco awareness in 10 Coimbatore Corporation schools on August 21, 2024, engaging students in creative expression to highlight tobacco's dangers.


Coimbatore: In a joint initiative to educate youth about the perils of tobacco use, the CSW Foundation and the District Tobacco Control Cell conducted a poster-making competition across ten schools in the Coimbatore Corporation area on August 21, 2024. The event aimed to harness students' creativity to spread awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption.

The competition was simultaneously held in ten schools, including CHS Varadharajapuram, CMS Singanallur, CMS Konvaikalpalayam, CHSS Okkliyar Colony, CHSS North Coimbatore, CMS Anuparapalayam, CHSS Ramanathapuram, CHSS Udayampalayam, CMS Ramasamy Nagar, and CMS Neelikonampalayam. Students enthusiastically participated, showcasing their understanding of tobacco's adverse effects through artistic expression.



The event was graced by several key figures, including Dr. Saranya Devi, Consultant, District Tobacco Control Cell; Mr. Murali Krishnan, Social Worker, District Tobacco Control Cell; Mr. Thoufiq, Psychologist; Mr. Dhilp, Project Associate, CSW Foundation; and Ms. Jayashree, Community Mobilizer. Mr. S. Harish Kumar, Trustee & Secretary of CSW Foundation, was also present to support the initiative.



Adding academic significance to the event, fieldwork Master of Social Work students from Kumaraguru College, Krishna College, and Bishop Appasamy College attended the competition. Their presence underscored the educational value of the initiative and its relevance to social work studies.



The active involvement of school Headmistresses and teachers further emphasized the importance of the event, ensuring robust participation and support from the educational institutions. Their commitment played a crucial role in the success of the competition and in driving home the message about tobacco's dangers to the young participants.



This collaborative effort between the CSW Foundation and the District Tobacco Control Cell represents a significant step towards creating a tobacco-free generation. By engaging students through creative means, the organizers aim to instill a lasting awareness about the health risks associated with tobacco use.
