Chennai Metro Rail Limited will revise and resubmit the Detailed Project Report for Coimbatore Metro Rail Project to the Union Ministry, addressing missing documents and necessary corrections. CMRL had said that those documents were attached with the submission to State Govt in Feb 2023.
Coimbatore: The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is set to make necessary corrections and include mandatory documents in the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Coimbatore Metro Rail Project. The revised DPR will be resubmitted to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to secure approval for the project and obtain financial assistance.
The Centre had returned the DPR to the Tamil Nadu government due to the absence of two crucial reports - the Comprehensive Mobility Plan and Alternative Analysis Report. These documents are mandatory as per the Metro Rail Policy 2017 for cities seeking approval for Metro Rail Projects.
The Union Ministry communicated the missing documents to the Tamil Nadu Government on July 25, 2024. In response, CMRL clarified the following day that the two reports were included in the Detailed Feasibility Report (DFR) submitted to the Tamil Nadu government in February 2023. However, their absence from the DPR led to its return.
Sources indicate that CMRL officials will resubmit the DPR after incorporating the two required reports. Coimbatore MP Ganapathy Rajkumar stated that any necessary changes to the DPR would be made, thoroughly scrutinized, and the file would be resent to the Centre.
The resubmission of the corrected DPR is a crucial step towards advancing the Coimbatore Metro Rail Project. It demonstrates the commitment of both state and local authorities to address the procedural requirements and move forward with this significant urban transportation initiative for Coimbatore.
