Police arrested four individuals, including a 14-year-old boy, for robbing pedestrians at knifepoint in villages near Pollachi. The suspects, from Ramanathapuram district, were involved in multiple crimes.
Coimbatore: Four individuals, including a 14-year-old boy, were arrested by the police for their involvement in a series of highway robberies near Pollachi. The suspects were caught threatening passersby with machetes and robbing them of their mobile phones and cash.
The incidents occurred in the areas of Then Kumarapalayam, Chinjuvadi, and Nambiyamuthur near Pollachi. The gang, traveling on two-wheelers, targeted individuals and threatened them with machetes before stealing their belongings.
Following complaints from the victims - Thirumalaisamy from Then Kumarapalayam, Manikandan from Chinjuvadi, and Manoharan from Nambiyamuthur - the Gomangalam police registered a case and began investigating. During their search operations in the affected areas, the police apprehended four suspects who were roaming suspiciously on the roads.
The arrested individuals were identified as Sabari Rajan (22), Nallukumar (21), Subash (21), and a 14-year-old boy. Upon interrogation at the police station, it was revealed that all four hailed from Ramanathapuram district. The police discovered that the suspects had multiple cases against them, including attempted murder, vehicle theft, chain snatching, assault, and ganja peddling. The accused also confessed to their involvement in the recent highway robberies.
All four suspects, including the minor, were booked and remanded to judicial custody.
Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police Karthikeyan commended the special team of police officers who swiftly conducted the investigation and arrested the culprits within two hours of receiving the complaints. He awarded certificates of appreciation to the officers involved in the case.
