Tirupur: A tragic accident occurred near Udumalpet in Tirupur district when a goods vehicle carrying female workers overturned, leaving 19 injured. The incident took place in the Ammapatti division area, at a curved section of the road.
The vehicle was transporting 53 women workers from various villages including Mamarathupatti, Thenkumarapalayam, and Kondegoundanputhur in Anaimalai taluk.
They were en route to Podipatti area for onion harvesting when the vehicle unexpectedly overturned.
All the workers were immediately rushed to the Udumalpet Government Hospital for treatment. Of the 19 injured, six were referred to Coimbatore Government Hospital for advanced medical care due to the severity of their injuries.
The accident has caused significant concern in the area, highlighting the risks faced by agricultural workers during transportation. Local authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, which could be attributed to the curved road or potential vehicle malfunction.
