5Km Run Against Drugs Sees Enthusiastic Participation in Coimbatore

The Association of Self-Financing Arts, Science and Management colleges of Tamilnadu organized a 5Km Run in Coimbatore on August 31, 2024, promoting a drug-free campus and healthy lifestyle.


Coimbatore: The Association of Self-Financing Arts, Science and Management colleges of Tamilnadu (ASFASMTN) successfully organized a 5Km Run on August 31, 2024, under the theme "Say No to Drugs - Yes to Life". The event, aimed at promoting a drug-free campus and encouraging a healthy lifestyle, saw enthusiastic participation from people of all age groups.

Kranthi Kumar Pati, IAS, District Collector of Coimbatore, flagged off the run at the Race Course. The event culminated with an award ceremony at Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore, which served as the finishing point.



Prof. Dr. Ajeet Kumar Lal Mohan, President of ASFASMTN and Secretary of AJK Group of Institutions Coimbatore, delivered the presidential address. Mr. Sethupati, Secretary of ASFASMTN, and Mr. C.V. Ramkumar, EC Member of ASFASMTN and CEO of Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science Coimbatore, felicitated the event.



The run saw fierce competition among participants, with cash prizes totaling ₹20,000 awarded to the top three finishers in both men's and women's categories. In the men's category, Mr. Mari Sarath from AJVA Sports Club Rajapalayam claimed the first prize of ₹10,000, followed by Mr. Naveen V from Dr. N.G.P. Arts and Science College winning ₹7,500, and Mr. Veera Pathiran P from Genesis Sports Club securing the third prize of ₹2,500.



In the women's category, MS. Shafna Sherin M from Genesis Sports Club bagged the first prize of ₹5,000, while MS. Kalaiyarasi from Suguna College of Arts and Science and MS. Maheshwari from Tamilnadu Police West Zone secured the second and third positions, winning ₹3,750 and ₹1,250 respectively.



The event organizers ensured that all participants felt valued and motivated. The first 50 participants received medals, while all participants were awarded e-certificates and T-shirts as tokens of appreciation for their involvement in this noble cause.



The run not only promoted awareness about the dangers of drug abuse but also encouraged physical fitness and community engagement. Participants from various educational institutions and sports clubs came together, showcasing the unity in the fight against drug addiction.



The organizers provided breakfast for all participants, adding to the festive atmosphere of the event. The provision of refreshments ensured that the runners remained energized throughout the run and during the post-event celebrations.



As the event concluded, participants and organizers alike expressed satisfaction with the success of the run. The initiative by ASFASMTN has set a positive example for other institutions to follow, emphasizing the importance of creating drug-free campuses and promoting healthy lifestyles among students and the community at large.
