Coimbatore: A grand celebration was held near Thernilai Thidal on Raja Veedhi in Coimbatore to commemorate the birth anniversary of M.K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, Tamil Nadu's first superstar and king of seven notes. The event, organized by the Tamil Nadu Vishwakarma Peravai, also served as a platform to express gratitude to Chief Minister Stalin for declaring the day as a government festival.
The celebration, led by Pandiyan, founder and president of the Tamil Nadu Vishwakarma Peravai, included a triple festival and public meeting. As part of the event, Tanishka, a student from Thuraiyur in Trichy district who secured the second rank in the state's 10th-grade examinations, was honored and presented with an award.
The occasion also marked the 21st-anniversary inauguration of the Tamil Nadu All Gold Jewelers Association. Administrators and community leaders who have been working for the Vishwakarma community were felicitated and presented with shields.
Speaking to reporters, Pandiyan, the founder and president of the Tamil Nadu Vishwakarma Peravai, raised several demands on behalf of the community. He called for the revival of the Goldsmiths Welfare Board in Tamil Nadu and suggested its transformation into an Artisans Welfare Board. Pandiyan emphasized the need for a welfare board encompassing five types of workers, including carpenters, goldsmiths, utensil makers, and sculptors.
Pandiyan criticized the central government's schemes, stating that they were not being implemented properly. He urged the Tamil Nadu government to effectively execute these schemes to improve the livelihood of the community members.
Highlighting the economic challenges faced by the community, Pandiyan requested the Tamil Nadu government to provide subsidies to support their trades. He also appealed for housing assistance, noting that many workers in the community are living below the poverty line.
The event not only celebrated the legacy of M.K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar but also served as a platform to voice the concerns and aspirations of the Vishwakarma community in Tamil Nadu.
