A public hearing on reopening stone quarries was conducted by Tirupur district administration and Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board in Uthukuli. Residents expressed divided opinions on the issue.

Coimbatore: The Tirupur district administration and Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board conducted a public hearing regarding the reopening of stone quarries in Morattupalaiyam village, Uthukuli taluk. The meeting took place at a private hall in Morattupalaiyam on Tuesday.

The purpose of the hearing was to gather public opinion on renewing licenses and restarting quarry operations in the area. Officials from the district administration presided over the meeting, which saw participation from local residents with differing viewpoints.

One group of attendees strongly opposed the reopening of quarries, citing environmental concerns. However, another section of residents from Morattupalaiyam emphasized the importance of quarries for their livelihood. They urged the authorities to permit the reopening, stating that many families in the area depend on quarry-related activities for their income.

The officials present at the meeting recorded both perspectives presented by the public. They assured the participants that all the information and opinions gathered during the public hearing would be compiled and submitted to the district administration for further consideration and decision-making.

The outcome of this public hearing is expected to play a crucial role in determining the future of stone quarry operations in the Uthukuli region of Tirupur district.
