Angry Passengers and Locals Detain Private Bus Near Karumathampatti for Skipping Stop, Coimbatore

A private bus was detained by angry passengers and locals near Karumathampatti, Coimbatore, after the conductor refused to stop at the designated point and forced passengers to alight midway.

Coimbatore: Tension prevailed near Karumathampatti on Thursday when angry passengers and locals detained a private bus for refusing to stop at the designated point. The incident occurred when a KMS private bus, operating from Gandhipuram Central Bus Stand to Tirupur via Avinashi Road, allegedly skipped the Karumathampatti stop and forced passengers to alight midway.

According to sources, several passengers boarded the bus at Gandhipuram on September 5, intending to get off at Karumathampatti. However, the bus conductor reportedly informed them that the bus would not stop at Karumathampatti and allegedly verbally abused the passengers before forcing them to get down halfway through the journey.

The stranded passengers immediately contacted locals in Karumathampatti via mobile phone to inform them about the incident. As the bus approached Karumathampatti, a group of locals surrounded and detained the vehicle. A heated argument ensued between the locals and the bus crew, comprising the driver and conductor.

Upon receiving information about the commotion, local police rushed to the spot. They intervened and held peace talks with both parties to defuse the situation. The police then dispersed the crowd, bringing the tense situation under control.

The incident has raised concerns about the adherence to designated stops by private bus operators and the treatment of passengers. Locals have demanded stricter regulations and monitoring of private bus services to ensure passenger safety and convenience.
