Aasram School students from Coimbatore win 20 medals, including 12 gold, at the World Silambam Championship held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala from September 4-6.
Coimbatore: Students from Aasram School in Coimbatorepudur have made their city proud by winning an impressive 20 medals, including 12 gold, at the World Silambam Championship held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
The championship took place at the Jimmy George Indoor Stadium from September 4 to 6, attracting over a thousand participants from various countries including India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, and Vietnam. The competition featured multiple categories such as sub-junior, junior, and senior divisions.
The Aasram School team, consisting of 10 students, participated in various events including single stick, double stick, sword play, Silambam combat, decorative sequence, deer horn, and spear stick. Their outstanding performance resulted in a total medal haul of 12 gold, 2 silver, and 6 bronze medals.

Upon their return to Coimbatore, the victorious students were given a grand welcome at the Aasram School campus. They were greeted with traditional music and celebrations. The event was attended by school officials including Trustee Devendran, Gowri, Secretary Ravikumar, Administrator Udayendran, Vidyasram School Director Soundarya, Aasram School Principal Saranya, and Silambam trainer Pavithra Priyadarshini.
Teachers and parents welcomed the champions by performing aarti, garlanding them with sandalwood necklaces, and presenting them with shawls and sweets. The students then showcased their Silambam skills in front of their parents, teachers, and the public, demonstrating the talent that earned them accolades at the international level.
