Lorry catches fire on Mettupalayam-Ooty Road, driver escapes unhurt

A lorry suddenly caught fire on the Mettupalayam-Ooty Road near Chinna Pallivaasal, causing panic. The quick-thinking driver managed to escape unharmed. The incident occurred when the empty vehicle was returning after unloading cement in Mettupalayam.



Coimbatore: A lorry suddenly caught fire on the Mettupalayam-Ooty Road near Chinna Pallivaasal, creating a tense situation in the area. The driver, Muniyasamy from Sattur in Virudhunagar district, managed to escape unhurt due to his quick thinking.

The incident occurred when the lorry, which had come from Cuddalore district loaded with cement, was returning empty after unloading its cargo at a godown in Mettupalayam. The vehicle was en route to Ariyalur when it suddenly burst into flames near Chinna Pallivaasal.



Shocked by the sudden fire, the driver immediately stopped the vehicle in the middle of the road and jumped out to safety. The front portion of the lorry was quickly engulfed in flames. Nearby residents rushed to the scene with water in an attempt to douse the fire, but their efforts were in vain as the blaze intensified.



The Mettupalayam Fire and Rescue Services and the local police were immediately alerted about the incident. Fire and police officials arrived at the scene and managed to bring the raging fire under control.

The sudden fire incident on the busy Mettupalayam-Ooty Road caused panic among local residents and passersby. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident. However, the lorry suffered significant damage due to the fire. The quick response of the driver in stopping the vehicle and escaping, combined with the timely intervention of the fire department, helped prevent a potential tragedy on the busy road.
