Karur MP Jothimani criticizes Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for her treatment of Annapoorna restaurant founder Srinivasan during a discussion on GST issues in Coimbatore, calling it arrogant and disgusting.
Coimbatore: Karur MP Jothimani has strongly condemned the recent incident involving Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Annapoorna restaurant founder Srinivasan, calling it an act of arrogance and disgust.
In a statement, Jothimani said, "Annapoorna Restaurant is one of Tamil Nadu's renowned eateries. Its founder, Srinivasan, presented a very reasonable request to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman regarding GST issues. He presented it politely, and the video went viral because the entire country is affected by GST."
The MP emphasized that it is the duty of a Finance Minister to listen to and address the concerns shared by a successful businessman who provides employment to many. However, she criticized the Minister for making Srinivasan apologize and then releasing the video, calling it the height of arrogance and disgusting behavior.
"What grave crime did he commit to warrant an apology? Is speaking the truth a crime?" Jothimani questioned. She expressed her regret for the humiliation faced by a businessman from the Kongu region of Tamil Nadu, stating that this incident is a testament to what the BJP and fascism can do.
Jothimani further added, "Even if you give abundantly to the BJP, they expect you to remain subservient. They expect you to stand before them with folded hands and sealed lips. Their firm stance is that others should not have their own opinions."
The MP demanded that Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman should apologize for humiliating the Annapoorna founder. She concluded her statement by expressing her love and support for Srinivasan.
