Usage of plastic banned in the Coimbatore corporation since May 1st


The usage of plastic in the Coimbatore corporation has been banned since May 1st. This action was directed by Coimbatore Corporation commissioner, K Vijay Karthikeyan, along with other officers. The plastic waste management act was also passed on 18th March 2016 in order to preserve the environment.

The production, usage and selling of articles such as use and throw plastic cups, disposable plates and plastic with a thickness of less than 50 microns are banned.

If such articles are found to be used, produced or sold, strict action will be taken against the traders, the Civic body has warned.
