Coimbatore witnessed its first state-level turf cricket league tournament, featuring 16 top teams from Tamil Nadu. The two-day event, held at SMR Sports Arena in KNG Pudur, included day-night matches and unique playing conditions.
Coimbatore: The city of Coimbatore recently hosted its first-ever state-level turf cricket league tournament, marking a significant milestone in the local sports scene. The two-day event, organized by Kalai Entertainment, took place at the SMR Sports Arena in Sai Nagar, KNG Pudur, near Kavundampalayam.
The tournament attracted 16 of Tamil Nadu's top cricket teams, showcasing the best talent from across the state. Coimbatore Member of Parliament Ganapathi Rajkumar inaugurated the event, which featured both day and night matches.

Notable attendees included Thudiyalur Area Secretary Arulkumar, Chief Executive Committee Member T.P. Subramanian, S.R. Marudachalam of SMR Group, former District Agricultural Wing Deputy Organizer Kannan, District Agricultural Wing Organizer Chandrasekaran, and Council Members Shanthamani Pachamuthu and Karpagam Rajsekaran.
The tournament was played on a 140-foot-wide turf ground enclosed by netting, including overhead coverage.
The unique format included 7-over matches with special rules. Batting teams could opt for a "Double Dhamaka" over within the first six overs, where runs scored would be doubled with no fielding restrictions. Each team was limited to 9 players on the field.
Prize money and trophies were awarded to the top performers. The winning team received Rs. 30,000 and a trophy, while the runners-up took home Rs. 15,000 and a trophy. The third-placed team was awarded Rs. 5,000 and a trophy. Additional prizes were given for the best batsman, best bowler, and best fielder.
This inaugural turf cricket league tournament not only provided an exciting platform for cricketers but also added a new dimension to Coimbatore's sporting landscape.
