Dinakaran supporters stage protest against Centre

Madurai: Over five hundred supporters of AIADMK (Amma) Deputy General Secretary T T V Dinakaran staged a slogan shouting demonstration here today condemning the Central Government for allegedly foisting ‘false’ and ‘politically motivated’ case on their leader.

Led by the party’s Karnataka State unit secretary V Pugazhendhi, the AIADMK cadres urged the Centre to immediately withdraw the false foisted against Mr Dinakaran.

They also raised slogans against the BJP-led government at the Centre.

Mr Pugazhendhi, addressing the gathering on the occasion, alleged that the case was foisted and politically motivated to destabilize the AIADMK party. Since Mr Dinakaran handled the party affairs efficiently, he has been framed, Mr Pugazhendhi said and demanded that respecting the sentiments of AIADMK cadres, the case filed against Mr Dinakaran should be withdrawn.

Referring to the allegations made by rebel leader O Panneerselvam who is heading the AIADMK (Puratchi Thalaivi Amma) faction that former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was not given proper treatment at the Apollo Hospital where she had been admitted, Mr Pugazhendhi said that photographs showing the treatment given to Ms Jayalalithaa would be released at the appropriate time. After which the real culprits would stand exposed, he said.

Taking a dig at Mr Panneerselvam for attempting to sideline Ms Sasikala and Mr Dinakaran, Mr Pugazhendhi said that one should have a sense of gratitude. He also recalled how the Tamil Nadu Government and the ruling AIADMK party, which stood ‘orphaned’ soon after the demise of Ms Jayalalithaa, were ably guided by party general secretary VK Sasikala and TTV Dinakaran.

It should be noted that Mr Dinakaran was arrested by Delhi Crime Branch police on April 25 for allegedly attempting to bribe Election Commission (EC) officials through Sukesh Chandrasekhar, a middle man, to reclaim the party’s disputed ‘Two Leaves’ symbol that was frozen by the EC.

Mr Dinakaran had, however, denied the bribery charge and alleged that efforts were now on by vested interests to destroy AIADMK party.
