Special Poojas Held at Sri Arulmigu Bannari Mariamman Temple in Urumandampalayam, Coimbatore

Special adornment poojas were conducted at Sri Arulmigu Bannari Mariamman Temple in Urumandampalayam, Coimbatore, marking Purattasi month and full moon day. The event included rituals for Ranga Ramar and offerings to seven Dasars.

Coimbatore: The Sri Arulmigu Bannari Mariamman Temple in Urumandampalayam, Coimbatore, witnessed special poojas and rituals on the occasion of Purattasi month and full moon day. The temple's Pournami group organized these events, which included elaborate ceremonies for the deity Bannari Mariamman and Ranga Ramar.

The festivities began at 4 PM with abhishekam pooja, followed by a circumambulation pooja and alangara pooja at 6 PM. To mark the beginning of Purattasi month, seven Dasars were invited to the temple. Special offerings were made to them, which included a variety of items placed on banana leaves such as coconut, fruits, betel leaves, areca nut, salt, tamarind, chili, rice, lentils, fresh vegetables, bitter gourd, okra, eggplant, pumpkin, broad beans, cluster beans, peanuts, and yam.

During the ceremony, the seven Dasars blew conch shells and sang songs in praise of Ranga Ramar.

Devotees then touched the offerings placed before the Dasars and received rice as 'madipichai' (alms). It is believed that cooking this rice along with the rice at home will fulfill one's wishes.

Prior to these rituals, circumambulation poojas were performed for Mapillai Vinayagar, Bannari Mariamman, and the temple's sacred tree. A special pooja was conducted using a mirror to reflect the full moon, allowing devotees to have darshan of the deity along with the moon's reflection.

The event concluded with the distribution of annadanam (food offering) to all attendees. The arrangements for this celebration were made by Devendran, the administrative in-charge of the Arulmigu Bannari Mariamman Temple Pournami Group, along with group members Chinnuramakrishnan, Jaiprakash, Vijayakumar, Ponnusamy, Banu Nagaraj, and other devotees.
