Devotees gathered at the ancient Karamadai Ranganathar Temple near Mettupalayam for the first Purattasi Saturday worship. They offered vegetables to Dasars, seeking agricultural prosperity and an end to food scarcity.

Coimbatore: The thousand-year-old Karamadai Ranganathar Temple near Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district witnessed a massive influx of devotees on the first Saturday of the Tamil month of Purattasi. This annual tradition sees thousands of worshippers converging at the temple on Saturdays throughout the month.

Today, special abhishekams and pujas were performed for Lord Ranganathar from early morning. The festive deity, Lord Ranganatha Perumal, along with Sri Devi and Bhu Devi, was placed in the Kalyana Mandapam to bless the devotees.

Devotees from various parts of Coimbatore district started queuing up from early morning to have darshan of Lord Ranganathar. The temple is particularly known for its significance in promoting agricultural prosperity and alleviating food scarcity.

A unique feature of this temple is the presence of Dasars, who serve as the Lord's attendants.

Devotees offered rice, vegetables, and other food items as donations to these Dasars, who carry sealed alms bowls, before having darshan of the deity.

To accommodate the large number of devotees attending the Purattasi month worship, the temple trust committee chairman Dev Anand, executive officer R. Chandramathi, and other committee members have made necessary arrangements to provide basic amenities for the visitors.
