Masked burglars arrested in Udumalaipet for series of thefts in Tirupur district

Four masked burglars involved in a series of thefts in Tirupur district were arrested in Udumalaipet. Police recovered 32 sovereigns of gold jewelry, a luxury car, and two-wheelers from the suspects.



Tirupur In a major breakthrough, the Tirupur district police have arrested four masked burglars involved in a series of thefts across Udumalaipet, Dharapuram, and Kangeyam police jurisdictions. The arrests were made in Udumalaipet, with the police recovering 32 sovereigns of gold jewelry, a luxury car, and two-wheelers from the suspects.

The string of burglaries occurred between August 27 and September 1, causing panic among local residents. Following public complaints, six cases were registered each at Udumalaipet and Kangeyam police stations, while four cases were filed at Dharapuram police station.



Initial investigations revealed that the burglars had broken into 16 houses, stealing 45 sovereigns of gold jewelry, Rs. 3,22,000 in cash, 30 silk sarees, two silver and two bronze lamps, and two motorcycles.

Acting on orders from Western Zone IG Senthil Kumar and DIG Saravana Sundar, Tirupur SP Abhinav Gupta formed a special team led by DSPs V. Arumugam (Udumalaipet) and Mayavan (Kangeyam). The team included Inspectors Gopalakrishnan (Udumalaipet), Vivekanandan (Kangeyam), Somasundaram (Avinashi), four Sub-Inspectors, a Special Sub-Inspector, four Head Constables, and six police personnel.

The special team intensified their investigation, analyzing CCTV footage from the affected areas and using sniffer dogs to track the suspects' escape routes.

On the day of the arrest, the team was conducting a vehicle check near Ragalpavi division in Udumalaipet. They intercepted a suspicious car and questioned its occupants, who gave contradictory answers. Further interrogation confirmed their involvement in the recent burglaries.



The arrested individuals were identified as Raja (40), Suresh (34), and Thangaraj (55) from Kallakurichi district, and Murugan Sivaguru (45), a native of Thyathuruvam area in Kallakurichi district currently residing in Deethkaragot, Chhattisgarh.



The suspects are allegedly involved in 16 recent cases and 3 old cases in Tirupur district, 5 cases in Dindigul district, and 1 case in Kanyakumari district. In total, 97 sovereigns of gold jewelry, Rs. 8,71,000 in cash, and 5 motorcycles were stolen across 25 cases.





Police have recovered 32 sovereigns of gold jewelry, two motorcycles used in the thefts, a car, masks, gloves, and weapons including sickles and hammers. The four suspects were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.

It is noteworthy that Raja and Thangaraj have 19 cases pending against them, while Suresh has 15 cases and Murugan Sivaguru has 20 cases pending. The public has expressed relief following the arrest of these serial offenders.

The police have emphasized the crucial role of CCTV footage in apprehending the suspects and have urged the public, businesses, and volunteers to install surveillance cameras in homes, offices, industrial establishments, roads, and key areas to aid in crime prevention and detection.
