The first incident occurred on the 13th in the Attukkal area of Thondamuthur constituency. Devaraj, a daily wage laborer, was fatally attacked by an elephant in the early hours while he was attending to nature's call. The elephant, which was standing in the dark, suddenly charged at Devaraj, resulting in severe injuries and his subsequent death.
In another tragic incident that took place a few months ago in the Viraliyur area of Thondamuthur constituency, 24-year-old Karthik lost his life while participating in an operation to drive away a wild elephant that had entered the village. Karthik, who was working alongside the forest department officials, suddenly collapsed during the operation. Unexpectedly, the elephant attacked the fallen Karthik, inflicting fatal injuries. Despite medical treatment, Karthik succumbed to his injuries.
Velumani visited both families, expressing his heartfelt condolences for their losses. He offered emotional support to the grieving family members and provided financial assistance to help them cope with the tragic circumstances.
The AIADMK leader's gesture of personally meeting the affected families and extending support highlights the growing concern over human-elephant conflicts in the region.
