Coimbatore: The Western Ring Road project in Coimbatore is making significant progress, with officials reporting that 70% of the land acquisition for the second phase has been completed. This crucial infrastructure development is set to improve connectivity and ease traffic congestion in the city.
The project, spanning a total length of 32.42 kilometers, is being executed in three phases. The second phase, which is currently in focus, will cover a distance of 12.10 kilometers from Madampatti to Somayampalayam. This stretch will pass through important areas such as Perur, West Chithiraichavadi, Kalikkanaickenpalayam, and Vadavalli.
An official involved in the project stated, "We have completed 70% of the land acquisition for the second phase of the project. Once the remaining land acquisition is over, work will commence on this stretch as well."
The third and final phase of the Western Ring Road will extend from Somayampalayam to Narasimmanaickenpalayam on the Coimbatore-Mettupalayam road. This 8.52-kilometer stretch will pass through Pannimadai, Nanjundapuram, Kurudampalayam, and Gudalur.
The entire project requires the acquisition of 143 hectares (353.36 acres) of land, comprising 119.97 hectares of private land and 23.03 hectares of government land. The state government has sanctioned Rs 320 crore for land acquisition purposes.
In addition to the land acquisition costs, the road construction work is estimated to cost the government another Rs 525 crore. This amount will be disbursed as per the requirements in each phase of the project.
