Goondas Act Invoked Against Cannabis Case Offender in Coimbatore

Coimbatore District Collector invokes Goondas Act on September 23 against Palani Mani from Madurai, arrested on August 18 for possessing 6 kg of cannabis for sale in Karamadai police station limits.


Coimbatore: The Goondas Act has been invoked against a cannabis case offender in Coimbatore, following the recommendation of the district police and subsequent order from the District Collector.

On August 18, Palani Mani, a resident of Madurai, was arrested for possessing 6 kilograms of cannabis intended for sale within the jurisdiction of Karamadai police station in Coimbatore district. The arrest highlighted the ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in the region.

Coimbatore Superintendent of Police Karthikeyan recommended to District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati that action be taken against Palani Mani under the Goondas Act. This recommendation was made considering the severity of the offense and its potential impact on public safety.

Acting on the SP's recommendation, Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati issued an order on September 23 to invoke the Goondas Act against Palani Mani. The Act, which allows for preventive detention of habitual offenders, is aimed at maintaining public order and preventing further criminal activities.

This action by the Coimbatore district administration sends a strong message against drug-related offenses and demonstrates the authorities' commitment to combating the drug menace in the region.
