Coimbatore Police Commissioner Balakrishnan inaugurated a free lung check-up camp for traffic police at Hindustan Hospital on September 25, marking the 5th anniversary of the hospital's pulmonology department.

Coimbatore: The Pulmonology Department of Hindustan Hospital in New India, Coimbatore, celebrated its 5th anniversary with a special event that included a free lung check-up camp for the city's traffic police personnel.

The anniversary celebration took place at the hospital premises, with Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan attending as the chief guest. The event was led by the hospital's specialist pulmonologists, Dr. Unnithan, Dr. Srikanth, Dr. Nagarajan, and Dr. Nanda Gopal.

As part of the program, coinciding with World Lung Health Day, a lung check-up camp was organized specifically for the Coimbatore City Traffic Police. Commissioner Balakrishnan officially inaugurated the camp, emphasizing the importance of respiratory health for traffic officers who are regularly exposed to pollution.

Deputy Commissioner of Traffic, Ashok Kumar, also participated in the event and launched a special screening camp for sleep apnea. This initiative recognizes the unique health challenges faced by traffic police officers who stand on roads daily, managing traffic and being exposed to various pollutants.

The camp provided comprehensive lung function tests for the traffic police personnel. Those found to have respiratory issues were given medical advice and necessary medications. The event was meticulously organized by the hospital's administrative manager, Sivasailam.

This health initiative underscores the commitment to the well-being of traffic police officers who play a crucial role in maintaining order on Coimbatore's roads while facing significant health risks due to prolonged exposure to air pollution.
