First sprouts witnessed in the replanted neem trees in the city airport complex

To the immense joy of the environmentalists and green enthusiasts, the six neem trees which have been transplanted with the help of Osai from the vicinity of Airport in mid-April have sprouted with new green foliage.

“ The first sprouts of green leaves in one of the six trees have been witnessed in many places and that is an assurance that the operation is a big success,” said Syed of Osai, the Green NGO which took up the task in coordination with the Forest Department.

When the Airport Authority of India embarked on an expansion project in the city airport they found out that the six neem trees would have to be axed. But instead, they decided to re-transplant six neem trees with the help of Osai, a Green NGO, which took up the task and successfully replanted the trees at a designated place some 350 meters from its original location.

The team members including Syed, Gnanaguru, Senthil Kumar, Uma Shankar, and Anthony have meticulously planned every single detail then. Vanitha Mohan, Managing Trustee of Siruthuli had inaugurated the event in the presence of Pratap Reddy, Airport Director.

“The recent rains have helped the cause of the trees and the first sprouts were seen and witnessed all over the replanted trees” said Syed who is thrilled by the regeneration of the uprooted and re-transplanted trees.

“As the root system were intact and safeguarded during the operation all the trees would sprout soon,” said Syed.
