Coimbatore: Syed Muhaideen, a 16-year-old schoolboy from Mettupalayam, Coimbatore, has brought honor to his hometown by winning a gold medal in an arm wrestling competition held recently in Chennai.
Syed, a 9th-grade student at a private school in Mettupalayam's CTC area, is the son of Farook, a garlic trader, and Shakeela Banu. The young athlete participated in the under-18 category of the arm wrestling competition organized by a private sports organization in Chennai.
Speaking about his achievement, Syed said, "I've been passionate about arm wrestling since childhood and often watched competitions. I used to enjoy arm wrestling with my school friends, father, and brother at home."
He added, "To prepare for competitions, I've been working out at home since a young age. When my school's physical education teacher, Deepak, informed me about the state-level arm wrestling competition in Chennai, I decided to participate. I also trained at a gym where my trainer, Gokul, prepared me for the competition."
Syed attributes part of his success to an unexpected source: "Despite my regular workouts, the strength in my arms significantly increased from helping my father load garlic. This played a crucial role in my victory at the competition."
The young champion expressed his intention to continue participating in similar competitions in the future, aiming to bring more laurels to his hometown and school.
Syed's victory serves as an inspiration to many young sports enthusiasts in Mettupalayam and the surrounding areas, showcasing that with passion, dedication, and hard work, success can be achieved even in less mainstream sports like arm wrestling.
