Padma Shri Pappammal, Coimbatore's Icon, Passes Away; BJP National Women's Wing President Vanathi Srinivasan Pays Tribute

Padma Shri Pappammal, renowned for her dedication to natural farming until the age of 108, passed away in Thekkampatti village near Mettupalayam, Coimbatore. BJP's Vanathi Srinivasan and AIADMK's AK Selvaraj paid their respects.


Coimbatore: Padma Shri Pappammal, a centenarian farmer and an icon of Coimbatore, passed away on Monday due to age-related ailments at her residence in Thekkampatti village near Mettupalayam, Coimbatore district. She was known for her unwavering passion for natural farming, which she continued until the age of 108.

Pappammal was honored with the Padma Shri award by the Central Government for her lifelong dedication to agriculture. Her body was kept at her residence for the public to pay their last respects.

BJP National Women's Wing President and Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan visited Pappammal's residence to pay her tributes. She garlanded the body and offered condolences to the family members.

Speaking to reporters, Vanathi Srinivasan praised Pappammal as a symbol of women's empowerment and an icon of Coimbatore. She recalled that Pappammal was highly respected by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who would seek her blessings by touching her feet whenever they met.

"Pappammal was a recipient of India's prestigious Padma Shri award and stood as an emblem for women and Coimbatore alike," Vanathi Srinivasan stated. She added that the BJP would pray for the departed soul to rest in peace.



Following this, Mettupalayam MLA and AIADMK Organizing Secretary AK Selvaraj also paid his respects to Padma Shri Pappammal.

The passing of Pappammal marks the end of an era in Coimbatore's agricultural landscape, leaving behind a legacy of sustainable farming practices and inspiration for future generations.
