Coimbatore: Leopard Snatches Pet Dog, Instilling Fear Among Hill Village Residents

A leopard was caught on CCTV snatching a pet dog in Onappalayam, Coimbatore. The incident has sparked fear among residents of hill villages in the area.

Coimbatore: Residents of Coimbatore district are living in fear due to frequent leopard intrusions into populated areas. Recently, a shocking incident occurred in Onappalayam near Vadavalli, where a leopard was captured on camera snatching a pet dog, causing widespread panic among locals.

The incident took place in the garden of Shyam Sundar, a resident of Onappalayam. Last night, a leopard entered the premises and attacked a pet dog, dragging it away. The entire episode was recorded on CCTV cameras, and the footage has since gone viral, shocking the public.

This is not an isolated incident in the region. Over the past few months, leopards have been spotted in various areas of Coimbatore, including Thondamuthur, Vandi Karannur, Viraliyur, and Marudamalai Madukkarai surroundings. These big cats have been preying on domestic animals, prompting the Forest Department to install surveillance cameras in these areas.

Recently, video footage of a leopard roaming in the Vandi Karannur area went viral on social media. However, there had been no sightings of the animal in the area for the past few days until this latest attack.

The recent leopard attack has reignited fears among the public and farmers in the region. Residents are urging the Forest Department to intensify their surveillance efforts and capture the leopard before it poses a threat to human lives. They have demanded that the captured leopard be released back into the forest area to ensure the safety of the local population.
