Asar Ali, injured in a police shootout near Namakkal, is undergoing treatment at Coimbatore Government Hospital. Doctors are amputating his right leg due to vascular damage and onset of gangrene.
Coimbatore: Asar Ali, one of the robbers involved in a high-stakes heist in Kerala, is currently undergoing treatment at the Coimbatore Government Hospital. He was admitted after sustaining injuries in a police shootout near Veppadai, Namakkal district, while attempting to escape with stolen cash from a container.

The medical team at the hospital has begun the process of amputating Asar Ali's right leg. This drastic measure became necessary due to severe vascular damage resulting from the gunshot wound, which led to the onset of gangrene in his leg.
The incident unfolded when a police team intercepted a suspicious container truck near Kumarapalayam in Namakkal district. The truck, which didn't stop at checkpoints, was pursued and cornered by the police. Upon inspection, authorities found seven robbers, a luxury car, and bundles of cash amounting to Rs. 66 lakhs inside the container.
When confronted, the robbers attacked the police officers, leading to an encounter. One robber was killed in the shootout, while five others, including Asar Ali, were arrested. One managed to escape. Two police officers, Inspector Thavamani and Sub-Inspector Ranjith from Kumarapalayam, sustained injuries during the confrontation.
The stolen cash is believed to be from three ATMs robbed in Thrissur, Kerala, earlier that day. The truck involved in the heist bore Rajasthan state registration, while the car found inside had no number plate.
In the wake of this incident, a special team from Kerala is en route to Tamil Nadu to assist with the investigation. The area where the encounter took place remains tense as the probe continues.
