Man Sentenced to 26 Years Imprisonment Under POCSO Act in Coimbatore

A 45-year-old man in Coimbatore was sentenced to 26 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in 2021. The verdict was delivered by the POCSO Special Court on September 30, 2023.


Coimbatore: The POCSO Special Court in Coimbatore has sentenced a 45-year-old man to 26 years of imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl in 2021. The accused, Kannan Palanisamy, was also fined Rs. 15,000 by the court.

The case dates back to 2021 when a complaint was registered at the Perur All Women Police Station against Kannan Palanisamy for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl. The case was investigated and subsequently brought to trial at the POCSO Special Court in Coimbatore district.

On September 30, 2023, the court concluded the trial and pronounced the verdict. The judge sentenced Kannan Palanisamy to 26 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 15,000.

Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police Karthikeyan commended the investigation officer for conducting a thorough inquiry and WPC 1127 Kanimozhi for effectively presenting witnesses in court. Their efforts were crucial in securing the conviction.

This case serves as a reminder of the strict implementation of the POCSO Act and the commitment of the judicial system to protect minors from sexual offenses. It also highlights the importance of prompt reporting and efficient investigation in such sensitive cases.
