New Temporary Traffic Roundabout in Coimbatore City

Coimbatore police announce installation of a new roundabout in a key area to control increasing traffic. The temporary measure aims to reduce congestion and accidents in the city center.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Police have announced the installation of a new roundabout in a key area to control the increasing traffic in the city. This decision comes as Coimbatore, an industrial hub, continues to attract residents from within the district, other districts, and neighboring Kerala for various purposes including medical treatment, education, and employment opportunities.

The surge in population has led to a significant increase in vehicular traffic, resulting in frequent congestion and accidents in the city. In response, the Coimbatore Police Department has been implementing various measures to address issues related to the number of vehicles, road conditions, and traffic guidance.

As part of these efforts, the police have conducted scientific studies to identify major congestion points on key roads. They have also implemented U-turns and circular routes to facilitate easier movement for the public and vehicle drivers.

The latest addition is a new roundabout constructed at the junction of Old Post Office Road and Race Course Road, near the District Collector's Office. This temporary roundabout is designed to streamline traffic flow in this busy area.

Vehicles heading towards the court from Hosur Road and Old Post Office Road can now take a right turn at the new roundabout. Those traveling from Race Course Road and Government Arts College Road towards Gandhipuram can take a right turn at the Red Cross Road roundabout and proceed via Hosur Road.

The police department has stated that the effectiveness of this temporary roundabout will be monitored, and public opinion will be sought regarding any potential changes. This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts to improve traffic management and reduce congestion in Coimbatore city.
