Gandhi Jayanti Celebrated by INTUC in Udumalaipettai

The National Textile Workers Union (INTUC) celebrated Gandhi Jayanti in Udumalaipettai, Tiruppur district. The event included garlanding of statues and a community feast, with participation from various political leaders.


Coimbatore: The National Textile Workers Union (INTUC) celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with great fervor at Kamarajar Bhavan on Nehru Street in Udumalaipettai, Tiruppur district. The event was presided over by INTUC President Kovai Selvan, with Udumalaipettai Town Congress President G. Ravi delivering the welcome address.

Tiruppur South District Congress President Advocate Thennarasu and other leaders paid floral tributes to the portraits of Mahatma Gandhi, former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, and Kamarajar. The celebration continued with a procession to various statues in the town, including Gandhi's statue at Udumalaipettai Kuttai ground, Kamarajar's statue at the old bus stand, and Nehru's statue on Rajendra Road.



As part of the celebrations, the organizers also arranged an annadanam (food donation) for the public. The event saw participation from several notable figures, including INTUC Treasurer Uthamaraj, Tiruppur South District Congress Vice Presidents Muthukumar, Loganathan, and Kittusamy, and District Panchayat Committee Member Janardanan. Various INTUC trade union officials and Congress party executives also attended the function.

The Gandhi Jayanti celebration organized by INTUC not only paid homage to the Father of the Nation but also reinforced the importance of his principles in today's society. The event served as a platform for political leaders and union members to come together and commemorate the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, while also strengthening their community bonds through acts of service like the annadanam.
