DGAQA to Establish Testing Facilities in Coimbatore, Ulundurpettai, and Sholavaram for Defence Aviation Sector

DGAQA plans to set up testing facilities in Sulur, Ulundurpettai, and Sholavaram for unmanned aerial vehicles and drones. The Sulur facility will focus on MRO for aircraft, helicopters, and aero engines.

Coimbatore: The Directorate General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance (DGAQA) is set to establish testing facilities in Coimbatore, Ulundurpettai, and Sholavaram to bolster the Defence Aviation Sector. These facilities will be developed at locations with existing unused runways, making them ideal for flight testing unmanned aerial vehicles and drones.

Sanjay Chawla, Director General of Military Aviation, announced that the facility in Sulur, Coimbatore, will focus on Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) of Aircraft, Helicopters, and Aero Engines. This facility is expected to be operational by the end of this year, marking a significant advancement in the region's aviation infrastructure.

The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) has played a crucial role in this development by allotting land to DGAQA for setting up its offices. This collaboration between state and central agencies highlights the importance of the project for both regional and national interests.

The establishment of these facilities is expected to enhance India's capabilities in the field of unmanned aerial systems and drone technology. By utilizing old, unused runways, the project also demonstrates an efficient use of existing resources. The strategic location of these facilities in Tamil Nadu is likely to contribute significantly to the state's growing prominence in the aerospace and defence sectors.
