Police arrested a man for selling liquor illegally near Kavundampalayam on October 3. In a separate incident, a thief involved in shop break-ins was apprehended in Karamadai during a vehicle check.
Coimbatore: In two separate incidents, the Coimbatore police made arrests for illegal activities in different parts of the city on October 3.
In the first case, a man was arrested for illegally selling liquor near Kavundampalayam. Police constable Mohan Kumar, attached to the Kavundampalayam police station, was on patrol duty on the Gaundampalayam-Nallampalaiyam Road when he discovered an illegal liquor sale operation near a bakery. The suspect, identified as Jayapandi (29) from Kannampalayam near Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district, was caught red-handed.
During the arrest, Jayapandi allegedly verbally abused constable Mohan Kumar and threatened him with dire consequences. The Kavundampalayam police were immediately informed, and they rushed to the spot to apprehend the suspect. A search revealed 22 bottles of liquor in his possession, which were subsequently seized.
Jayapandi, who was currently residing on Nataraja Street in Kavundampalayam, was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
In a separate incident on the same day, the Karamadai police arrested a man involved in a series of shop break-ins. Inspector Gnanasekaran of Karamadai led a team conducting vehicle checks on the Mettupalayam-Coimbatore Road. They intercepted and questioned a suspicious individual.
The suspect was identified as Seeni alias Srinivasan (34) from Kumarapalayam in Namakkal district. During interrogation, he confessed to breaking into shops in the Karamadai area and stealing money. The police immediately arrested Srinivasan for his involvement in these thefts.
Both cases highlight the ongoing efforts of the Coimbatore police to curb illegal activities and maintain law and order in the city.
