AIADMK Protests Against Property Tax Hike with Human Chain in Mettupalayam

AIADMK staged a human chain protest in Mettupalayam, Coimbatore district, demanding the withdrawal of the 6% property tax increase announced by the Tamil Nadu government for municipalities and corporations.

Coimbatore: The AIADMK organized a human chain protest in front of the bus stand in Mettupalayam, Coimbatore district, demanding the withdrawal of the property tax hike announced by the Tamil Nadu government.

The state government has announced a 6% increase in property tax for the second time in municipal corporations, municipalities, and town panchayats across Tamil Nadu. This marks the second property tax hike since the DMK came to power, causing significant distress among the public.

Led by Mettupalayam MLA A.K. Selvaraj, over 200 AIADMK members participated in the protest. They formed a human chain on the Mettupalayam-Ooty Road, linking hands to express their opposition to the tax increase.

The protesters criticized the DMK government for burdening the people with consecutive tax hikes, including the previous 50% increase in property tax. They also voiced their disapproval of other tax increases, such as electricity tariff hikes and document registration fee increases.

Slogans were raised against the Tamil Nadu government during the demonstration. Notable participants included AIADMK Amma Peravai Secretary Nasar, District Councilor P.T. Kanthasamy, and several AIADMK municipal council members, along with over 200 party supporters.
