Coimbatore: AIADMK party members staged a human chain protest in front of the Valparai Municipality office in Coimbatore district. The demonstration was led by Valparai MLA Amul Kandasamy, along with City Secretary Mayilganesan and Plantation Workers' Wing leader V. Ameedu.
Over 200 participants joined the protest, voicing their opposition to various issues plaguing the state and the local area. The protesters condemned the recent hikes in electricity tariffs, school fees, milk prices, and property taxes across Tamil Nadu.
The demonstrators also raised concerns specific to Valparai, accusing the municipality of mismanagement. They highlighted issues such as property tax increases for tea estate workers, lack of salary hikes for plantation laborers, and steep increases in municipal shop rents. The AIADMK members claimed that no developmental work had been carried out in the area for the past three years, alleging corruption worth several crore rupees.
Other grievances included non-functional street lights in residential areas, leading to increased wildlife encounters and potential loss of human life. The protesters also pointed out the lack of proper road facilities in various estate areas. MLA Amul Kandasamy emphasized these demands as he led the human chain protest with over 200 AIADMK members participating.
