Electrical Engineer Arrested for Taking Bribe Near Udumalaipettai

Assistant Electrical Engineer Sathyavani Muthu was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Department for demanding a Rs.2000 bribe for an agricultural power connection in Kongal town near Udumalaipettai, Tirupur district.


Coimbatore: An incident of an Assistant Electrical Engineer being arrested for accepting a bribe for an agricultural power connection has caused a stir in Kongal town near Udumalaipettai in Tirupur district.

Jayaraman, a farmer from Kongal town, had applied for an electrical connection for his agricultural land through the expedited process. Subsequently, Sathyavani Muthu, the Assistant Electrical Engineer of Kongal town, called the farmer and demanded a bribe of Rs.2000 to install the meter and provide the connection.



Shocked by this demand, farmer Jayaraman reported the matter to the Tirupur District Anti-Corruption Department. Following the advice of the Anti-Corruption officials, when the farmer handed over the chemically treated Rs.2000 to Assistant Electrical Engineer Sathyavani Muthu, the waiting officials caught her red-handed and arrested her.

The Anti-Corruption Department officials, led by Tirupur District Anti-Corruption Department Inspector Sasireka, seized the bribe money and conducted an investigation. This incident of an official being arrested for accepting a bribe for an agricultural power connection near Udumalaipettai has caused a significant stir among the public.
