Residents of Thiru.Vi.Ka Nagar Stage Road Roko Protest Over Unfinished Infrastructure Work

Residents of Thiru.Vi.Ka Nagar in Coimbatore's 14th ward staged a road roko protest due to unfinished water and sewage pipeline works, causing accidents and inconvenience during recent heavy rains.

Coimbatore: Residents of Thiru.Vi.Ka Nagar in Coimbatore's 14th ward, Urumandampalayam, staged a road roko protest on Monday morning, demanding immediate completion of pending infrastructure work in their area. The protest was triggered by the incomplete water and sewage pipeline installation, which has left the roads in a dangerous condition.

Over 300 families residing in Thiru.Vi.Ka Nagar have been facing difficulties due to the unfinished work. Trenches dug for laying water pipes and underground drainage systems have remained open, causing severe inconvenience to the residents. The recent heavy rains over the past week have exacerbated the situation, turning the roads into muddy, slushy tracks.

The situation took a serious turn when a two-wheeler rider reportedly fell into one of the open trenches on Wednesday night. This incident prompted more than 100 residents to gather and stage a road roko protest on the road from Vellakinar to Ganapathy. The protest was led by Pandal Veedu Prakash, the AIADMK 14th ward secretary.

Responding to the situation, 14th Ward Municipal Councillor Chitra Thangavelu, Assistant Engineer Uthaman, and officials from the Thudiyalur Police Station rushed to the spot. They engaged in discussions with the protesters and assured them that the pending work would be completed immediately, and the roads would be repaired.

Following these assurances, the protesters dispersed, bringing an end to the brief period of tension in the area. The incident highlights the need for prompt completion of infrastructure projects to ensure public safety and convenience.
