Sub-Registrar and Assistant Arrested for Bribery, Presented in Coimbatore Court

A Sub-Registrar and an assistant were caught accepting a bribe of Rs. 35,000 in Coimbatore. They were arrested by the Anti-Corruption Police and presented in court on October 10.

Coimbatore: In a recent case of corruption, a Sub-Registrar and an assistant from the Singanallur Sub-Registrar's office in Vellalore, Coimbatore, were arrested for accepting a bribe and presented before the court on Tuesday, October 10.

The incident came to light when Karuppusamy, a resident of Siddapudur in Coimbatore, approached the Singanallur Sub-Registrar's office for a document registration. He was allegedly asked to pay a bribe of Rs. 35,000 for the service.

Karuppusamy informed the Anti-Corruption Police about the demand. The police then provided him with chemically treated currency notes to catch the officials red-handed. Around 7 PM on Monday, Karuppusamy visited the Sub-Registrar's office and handed over the money. The Anti-Corruption Police caught Junior Assistant Bhupathi Raja and Sub-Registrar Nancy Nithya Caroline in the act of accepting the bribe.

During a subsequent search of Sub-Registrar Nancy Nithya Caroline's four-wheeler, the police discovered an unaccounted sum of Rs. 13 lakhs. The Anti-Corruption Police seized this amount as well.

Following the arrests, the officials registered a case against the accused and presented them before the court on October 10.

It is worth noting that this is not the first instance of corruption in this office. Last month, during a raid conducted by the Anti-Corruption Department at the same office, unaccounted cash amounting to Rs. 1.5 lakhs was seized.

The incident has raised concerns about the prevalence of corruption in government offices and the need for stricter vigilance to ensure transparency in public services.
