Heavy Rainfall in Coimbatore City: Bus Submerged in Floodwater

Coimbatore city experienced heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning, causing waterlogging in several areas. A private bus was submerged in rainwater at Sai Baba Colony, disrupting traffic and daily life.

Coimbatore: Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed various parts of Coimbatore city on Wednesday, leading to waterlogging and traffic disruptions. The downpour, which began in the afternoon, affected several areas including Gandhipuram, Ramanathapuram, Singanallur, Airport, Vilankurichi, Saravanampatti, Ganapathy, Kuniyamuthur, and Goundampalayam.

The continuous heavy rain caused water to accumulate on roads, severely affecting traffic movement across the city. Low-lying areas were particularly affected, with water stagnation reported in multiple locations. In a notable incident, a private bus was submerged in rainwater near the railway overbridge in Sai Baba Colony, highlighting the severity of the situation.

The heavy rainfall has also led to power outages in some parts of the city due to lightning strikes. The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) officials have been alerted and are working to clear waterlogged areas and restore normalcy.

Meteorological department officials have forecasted that the rain is likely to continue for the next 24 hours. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions and avoid venturing out unless absolutely necessary. The CCMC has set up a helpline for citizens to report any rain-related issues or emergencies.

The suburban areas of Coimbatore district are also experiencing rainfall, though not as intense as the city center. Local authorities are monitoring the situation closely and have kept disaster response teams on standby to address any potential emergencies that may arise due to the continued heavy rainfall.
