Students suffer as rainwater stagnates in government school premises in Coimbatore

Heavy rainfall in Coimbatore has led to waterlogging in a government higher secondary school, causing inconvenience to students and teachers. Parents express concerns over health risks and negligence by local authorities.

Coimbatore: Students and teachers at a government higher secondary school in Ganpathy area of Coimbatore are facing severe difficulties due to waterlogging on the school grounds following heavy rainfall.

The school premises have turned into a virtual pond, causing great discomfort to the students and staff.

The heavy downpour, which lasted for over two hours on the previous evening, has left the school playground inundated. Parents and teachers have reportedly complained to the DMK Ward 30 Councillor Saranya and the North Zone Chairman Kathirvel about the situation. However, they allege that no action has been taken to address the issue.

Parents have expressed deep concern over the potential health risks to their children due to the stagnant water. Many are apprehensive about sending their children to school under these conditions, fearing the spread of waterborne diseases.

Adding to the woes, ongoing sewage work outside the school premises has resulted in sewage water flowing onto the streets. This has further exacerbated the problems faced by the students and teachers, making their daily commute to school extremely challenging.

The dual problem of rainwater stagnation within the school compound and improper drainage outside has created a dire situation. Teachers and students are grappling with significant hardships as they navigate through waterlogged areas and sewage-filled streets to reach their classrooms.

Local residents and parents are urging the municipal authorities to take immediate action to drain the stagnant water and complete the sewage work promptly. They emphasize the need for a long-term solution to prevent such waterlogging issues in the future, ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for the students.
