Residents protest against garbage dumping in Tirupur, block corporation trucks

Residents of Muthalipalayam and surrounding areas in Tirupur blocked corporation trucks and staged a road roko, protesting against garbage dumping in their locality, citing health concerns.


Tirupur: Tension gripped Muthalipalayam area in Tirupur as residents blocked corporation trucks and staged a road roko protest against the dumping of garbage in their locality. The protesters claimed that the continuous dumping of waste was causing severe health issues, including respiratory problems and skin diseases.

The Tirupur City Corporation collects approximately 600 tons of garbage daily from its 60 wards and dumps it in an unused quarry pit in the Muthalipalayam area. Residents complained that the constant dumping of waste has led to unbearable stench and various health problems.

Despite multiple petitions to the corporation requesting an immediate halt to the dumping, no action was taken, according to the protesters. Frustrated with the lack of response, residents from Muthalipalayam, Chennimalai Palayam, and nearby villages detained the corporation trucks that arrived to dump garbage and staged a road roko.



The protest caused a commotion in the area, prompting corporation officials to intervene. The officials assured the protesters that alternative sites for garbage disposal were being identified and that a solid waste management system would be implemented soon. They promised that garbage would no longer be dumped in the Muthalipalayam area. Following these assurances, the protesters called off their agitation.

The incident highlights the growing concerns over waste management in rapidly expanding urban areas and the need for sustainable solutions to address the issue of garbage disposal without affecting residents' health and well-being.
