Night-Time Restrictions Lifted on Coimbatore Flyovers from Today

Coimbatore lifts night restrictions on four major flyovers including Gandhipuram, Ukkadam, Avinashi Road and Trichy Road from today. The ban, imposed on March 18 to reduce speeding and accidents, is removed following public complaints about traffic congestion during restricted hours.

Coimbatore: The night-time vehicular restrictions imposed on four major flyovers in Coimbatore city will be officially lifted starting today. The flyovers at Gandhipuram, Ukkadam, Avinashi Road, and Trichy Road had been closed to traffic between 10 PM and 6 AM since March 18.

The restriction was introduced as a trial measure aimed at curbing high-speed driving and reducing road accidents on these elevated corridors. However, the move drew significant criticism from commuters and residents who faced increased traffic congestion on alternative routes during the restricted hours.

Following numerous complaints from the public about traffic snarls and inconvenience caused by the night-time closure, authorities have decided to revoke the restriction. The decision is expected to provide relief to late-night travelers, shift workers, and emergency service vehicles that were previously forced to take longer detours.

Traffic police officials have indicated that while the restriction is being lifted, enhanced monitoring and speed control measures will continue to be in place on these flyovers to ensure road safety. Motorists are advised to adhere to speed limits and exercise caution while using these elevated corridors.
