Coimbatore: Applications are now being accepted for degree and diploma courses at the Tamil Nadu Government Music College in Malumichampatti, Coimbatore, as announced by District Collector Pawan Kumar Giriyappanar.
In a press release issued yesterday, the Collector detailed the admission process for the music college operating under the Department of Arts and Culture. The college offers various programs across multiple disciplines of traditional Indian music and dance.
For the three-year Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree program in music, students can enroll in specializations including vocal music, veena, violin, and Bharatanatyam. Candidates must have passed Plus Two examination, with no age limit for admission to these courses.
The diploma program offers courses in vocal music, veena, violin, Bharatanatyam, nadaswaram, and thavil. Applicants must have passed 10th standard and be between 16 and 30 years of age to be eligible for these programs.
For the one-year Music Teacher Training course, candidates must have completed 10th standard and hold either a BA in Music or an Isai Kalaimani diploma. The age limit for this program is 16 to 35 years.
The evening music college offers a two-year certificate program in vocal music, veena, and violin. Students who have passed 10th standard and are above 17 years of age can apply, with no upper age limit.
The fee structure is as follows: Rs. 3,904 per year for BA Music, Rs. 1,530 per year for diploma and music teacher training courses, and Rs. 1,383 per year for the evening music college program.
Students will receive a monthly educational incentive of Rs. 1,500 and will also be provided with free bus pass for transportation.
