DMK State Art and Literature Wing Deputy Secretary Meena Jayakumar Resigns from All Party Posts

Meena Jayakumar, DMK State Arts and Literature Wing Deputy Secretary, resigned from all party positions including basic membership. Her resignation follows controversy over viral photographs with AIADMK's Leema Rose celebrating electoral victory days earlier.

Coimbatore: Meena Jayakumar, who served as Deputy Secretary of the DMK State Arts and Literature Wing, has announced her resignation from all party responsibilities, including her basic membership in the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

In a social media post announcing her decision, Meena Jayakumar addressed party leader and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and his family with greetings before making her resignation public. "From today, I am resigning from all responsibilities including basic membership of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam," she stated in her post.

In her farewell message, she expressed gratitude to those who supported her political journey. "I extend my heartfelt thanks to all those who have joined me, supported me, encouraged me, and guided me in this political journey I have traveled so far. Thank you to everyone!" she wrote.

The resignation comes amid significant controversy surrounding Meena Jayakumar. A few days prior to her announcement, photographs of her congratulating with AIADMK's Leema Rose following the latter's electoral victory went viral on social media platforms. The images sparked widespread debate and criticism, as they showed a DMK functionary appearing to celebrate an opposition party member's success.

The viral photographs created a major political storm, with many questioning the appropriateness of a DMK office-bearer publicly celebrating an AIADMK candidate's victory amidst the 2026 election debacle. The incident raised eyebrows within political circles and among party workers, leading to intense speculation about possible disciplinary action.

While Meena Jayakumar did not explicitly cite the controversy as the reason for her resignation in her statement, the timing suggests a connection between the viral incident and her decision to step down from all party positions. Her departure marks the end of her association with the DMK, where she held a significant position in the party's cultural wing.

The DMK leadership has not yet issued an official statement regarding her resignation or the circumstances surrounding it.
