The National Lok Adalat held in Coimbatore district resolved 4782 cases in one day. Two families who lost members in accidents received Rs 90 lakh compensation each. The total settlement amount was Rs 1.11 crore. Six estranged couples were reunited through the proceedings.
Coimbatore: A National Lok Adalat organized under the guidance of the Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority in Coimbatore district successfully resolved 4782 cases in a single day, with a total settlement amount of Rs 1 crore 11 lakh 42 thousand.
The Lok Adalat was conducted under the chairmanship of Vijaya, Chairperson of Coimbatore District Legal Services Authority and Principal District Sessions Judge, at courts in Coimbatore, Mettupalayam, Pollachi, Valparai, Sulur and Madukkarai.
In a significant development during the proceedings, compensation was awarded to two families who lost members in road accidents. The family of Mitrakant, who died in a two-wheeler accident on the Bothanur Sethipalayam Road in 2024, received Rs 90 lakh as compensation through a cheque.
Similarly, the family of Maniraj, who lost his life in a four-wheeler accident on the Anaikatti to Coimbatore Main Road in 2025, was awarded Rs 90 lakh as compensation.
The Lok Adalat addressed various categories of cases including compoundable criminal cases, cheque bounce cases, motor accident claims, civil cases, land and property partition matters, rent disputes, labour-related cases, bank loans, education loans, family matters excluding divorce, and pre-litigation cases.
Notably, the Lok Adalat resolved 58 cases that had been pending in courts for more than five years. Furthermore, six estranged couples were counseled and reunited through the mediation efforts of the Lok Adalat.
Conducted as per the directives of the National Legal Services Authority, this Lok Adalat played a crucial role in simplifying legal procedures and ensuring speedy justice delivery to the common people.
