Widely regarded as one of Tamil cinema's finest storytellers, Bhagyaraj began his career as an assistant director and writer under legendary filmmaker Bharathiraja before emerging as one of the industry's most successful writer-directors. His distinctive style of storytelling, sharp humour and engaging screenplays earned him the title of the "Screenplay King."

Over a career spanning nearly five decades, Bhagyaraj wrote, directed and acted in several acclaimed films, including Suvar Illatha Chithirangal, Andha 7 Naatkal, Mundhanai Mudichu, Darling, Darling, Darling, Idhu Namma Aalu and Avasara Police 100. His films, known for their relatable characters and family-oriented narratives, left an enduring impact on Tamil cinema.

Bhagyaraj remained active in cinema and public life in recent years, and the Tamil film industry had recently celebrated his remarkable 50-year journey in filmmaking.
